Isola Lunga

“As the sun goes down, the atmosphere on the island is transformed….

the sun illuminates the saline pools, flooding them with a thousand shades of pink, providing a natural spectacle so strong it takes your breath away.”

L’ISOLA GRANDE

The Oriented Nature Reserve “Isole dello Stagnone Marsala” includes the four islands: Mothia, Santa Maria, Schola and Isola Grande and, in the pre-reservation area, also the Ettore and Infersa Salt Pans. Isola Grande, better known as Isola Lunga, is the largest of the four. It is a nature oasis, entirely walkable. Phytogeographically, it hosts a large number of protected or endangered species such as Maritime Marigold L., Cynomorium coccineum L. and many other halophytic plants. The fauna is rich in resident and migratory birds and other small animals that make it unique and full of charm.

SALITURISMO AND SALT RESORT

Saliturismo (salt & tourism) developed on Isola Lunga starting in 2005, expanding the concept of experiential tourism conceived at the Ettore and Infersa salt pans over 10 years earlier: exclusive and innovative experiences related to salt and salt pans, designed and dedicated to our guests as part of our Sicily Tour offerings. Saliturismo, which we created, represents a fusion of hospitality, nature trails, food and wine events, and sensory moments related to unique places in the reserve and our sea salt. In the middle of the Reserve and in an unspoiled and uninhabited area, you will be welcomed into our Salt Resort, created by comfortably restoring an existing structure on the island. Here, we promote, with full respect for Nature, strictly eco-friendly tourism: plastic use and water waste reduced to a minimum.

At the Island pier you will be greeted by our staff and the rushing chirping of cicadas.

Wellness in the Salt Pans

Inside the Fra Giovanni salt pan, right on the Isola Grande, the harvest of edible sea salt is no longer carried out. However, the hydraulic circuit of the salt pans is kept in full operation, with water flows designed and managed in such a way as to give our guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in salt pan tanks with water of different and increasing salt concentrations or even lie down on the salt crust. A unique experience entirely dedicated to well-being of body and mind. The tour is entirely guided from arrival on the island to the salt pans. The duration of the route is approximately 60 minutes, however it is possible to repeat it and stay in the structure until 6.00 pm. We have a changing room, bathrooms and solar shower.
